Electrophotography Variations

Electrophotography belongs to a group of electrostatic printing processes which rely on the electrostatic properties of certain materials to deposit toner particles to produce a print. Other electrostatic processes include electrography, magnetography, and iconography all of which have limited commercialization.

Diavographie is a full color German printing process introduced in the late 1990s that uses elements of dry toner electrophotography and lithography. The toner image is transferred from the photoreceptor to high-quality cotton (etching) paper and then run through a lithographic press using pressure to fuse the toner to the paper. The image has a halftone pattern and dusty dots like full color dry toner electrophotographs, however the rough paper makes the pattern more difficult to discern. The images are used for art reproduction, facsimiles, and fine art prints.
