Dye Imbibition Surface View

Surface Sheen
Dye Transfer papers were manufactured by Kodak with three surfaces, each labeled with a letter that described the surface sheen and texture. A–white, lustre, smooth; F–white, glossy, smooth; G–cream-white, lustre, fine-grained. The “F” surface paper could be ferrotyped to increase the surface sheen.
Surface Texture
Dye Transfer papers were manufactured by Kodak with "A", "F", and "G" surfaces. The letter described the texture and surface sheen of the paper. The “A” surface has a very thin baryta therefore the paper fibers create a textured surface. The "G" surface has a distinct texture applied to the paper support and a thin baryta layer. The "F" surface is characterized as "smooth". It has a relatively smooth surface with a thick baryta layer.

Fluorescence
The magenta dye in many dye imbibition prints fluoresces orange under ultraviolet radiation. Depending on the print and amount of magenta dye present this effect may not always be easily visible.
